For the Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards), 65,000 men served in the First World War. Of these men, 7,500 died and 23,000 were wounded.
The Beck Isle Museum in Pickering is involved with recording the memorials to, and graves of, the men of the Yorkshire Regiment who died in the First World War. The Beck Isle Museum database and memorials recording project was designed and established by Roger Dowson with funding support from the Sharing Museum Skills Millenniun Awards Fund. Roger worked on secondment to Beck Isle Museum from the Fusiliers Museum, Lancashire who also supported the project idea.
Part of this work includes a database of names of men of the Yorkshire Regiment who served in the First World War. This database has been compiled by the Beck Isle Museum, and lists names of men mostly from the Ryedale area of Yorkshire. However, amongst the over 500 names in this dabase, there are men from all over North Yorkshire.
This database of names has links to the page of images and descriptions of local War Memorials. To view the names on this Roll of Honour, select the image below.
