For the Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards), 65,000 men served in the First World War. Of these men, 7,500 died and 23,000 were wounded. The majority of these men were killed, or died, overseas.
However, a significant number of men returned home to subsequently die of their wounds or, possibly, disease.
These men were buried in graves in local church yards and cemeteries, and their graves are looked after by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

We have recorded the information on just SOME of these War Graves. We would like to collect information on as many as possible, though. If YOU have photographs of local War Graves which contain the name of men of the Yorkshire Regiment / Green Howards, please let us know. We will be glad to publish your images and will give full credit to you against any images supplied.

To find out about the War Graves that we have information on, select any one of the images below to be taken to a web page which indexes our record of some of the War Graves in North Yorkshire. Do you recognise one from where YOU live? Or do you recognise any of the NAMES on these Memorials?

We have also included information on some overseas Cemeteries where men of the Yorkshire Regiment are either buried or commemorated. Again, any information YOU might be able to provide on such cemeteries will be very welcome.
